Who can register a death?
Medical Examiner involvement
The doctor, hospital or hospice must send the cause of death
paperwork to the Medical Examiner for approval.
After this has been agreed on, the Medical Examiner’s team will
contact the next-of-kin to confirm cause of death and that the
death can now be registered.
The register office are then automatically sent the cause of
death certificate and we will contact the next-of-kin to arrange
an appointment to register.
Deaths are usually registered by a relative, but if this is not possible,
or there are no relatives, the following could register the death:
•
Someone present at the death
•
The person making the funeral arrangements
•
An occupant of the nursing/residential home/official from
the hospital where the death took place

to give the registrar?
